Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Philanthropy Officer, Major Gifts, is a key member of the Mission Advancement Team, responsible for driving major donor engagement strategies to support the mission of The Healing Place. This position manages a portfolio of donors and prospects capable of contributing $5,000 or more annually. It plays an essential role in major gifts, annual giving, capital campaigns, corporate/foundation relations, prospect management, stewardship, special events, and planned giving. This position requires a results-driven, relationship-oriented individual who brings professionalism, initiative, and collaboration to all aspects of donor engagement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Donor Management and Cultivation

  • Manage a portfolio of 100+ major gift donors and prospects, including individuals, corporations, foundations, and government entities.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with existing and potential major donors targeted for upgrade, renewal, or long-term partnership.
  • Design and implement customized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans through in-person visits, proposals, and consistent follow-up communication.
  • Assess prospect capacity and alignment with mission using donor analytics to guide solicitation strategies and determine ask amounts.
  • Maintain accurate, timely donor records in the donor CRM system (DonorPerfect preferred).

Fundraising and Solicitation

  • Lead and support direct solicitations with major donors, including preparing proposals and solicitation materials.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of annual giving, capital campaigns, planned giving, and special fundraising initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Mission Advancement and agency leadership to align fundraising strategies with The Healing Place's overall strategic plan and budgetary goals.
  • Support the preparation of select grant applications and reporting for private or corporate foundations connected to your donor portfolio.

Event Coordination and Representation

  • Collaborate with the team to set engagement goals for major donors at key events, including the Golf Classic and Celebrate Freedom Dinner.
  • Support sponsorship outreach, communication strategy, donor follow-up, and stewardship related to events.
  • Represent The Healing Place at community events and donor engagements, always upholding the organization’s mission and values.

Reporting and Strategic Support

  • Monitor and report on donor activity, portfolio performance, and campaign progress to the Director of Mission Advancement using CRM reporting tools and fundraising metrics.
  • Use data trends to inform donor strategy, enhance engagement, and identify new opportunities for impact.
  • Support strategic initiatives and key projects led by the Mission Advancement Team and senior leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, open to candidates with strong transferable business experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of fundraising or development experience, with a proven track record in securing gifts of $5,000 or more.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and donor database programs (DonorPerfect preferred).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with donors and community members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with and passion for substance use recovery, healthcare-focused nonprofits, or human services organizations is strongly desired.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time and work occasional evenings or weekends.

COMPENSATION:

The expected salary range for this position is $75,000 - $82,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional consideration may be given to highly qualified candidates. Work is primarily performed in an indoor office setting with controlled temperatures. Rare exposure to outdoor conditions may occur during events or off-site donor visits.
