Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician - Phoenix, AZ at Optum summary:

The Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician performs sterile compounding according to regulatory standards, ensures medication management and equipment troubleshooting, and maintains cleanliness and compliance within the pharmacy setting. This role requires active pharmacy technician licensure, knowledge of USP 797 and USP 800, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a healthcare team. The position supports improved health outcomes by delivering safe, sterile compounded medications while adhering to quality and safety protocols.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform sterile compounding according to company policy and regulations including USP 797 and USP 800
  • Maintain competency related to performing sterile compounding
  • Participate in medication management for pharmacy compounding, including medication and supply ordering, receiving, and maintenance
  • Troubleshoot equipment, hardware, and software issues relating to compounding
  • Participate in completing and documenting all cleaning and monitoring activities identified for areas related to sterile compounding including daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning requirements
  • Work within a team to triage and respond to all compounding needs promptly
  • Maintain ongoing didactic and practical training related to sterile compounding

Required Qualifications:

  • Active and unrestricted Pharmacy Technician license in the state of Arizona
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (8-hour shifts between 7am-7pm weekdays with rotating weekends)
  • Ability to work onsite at 23620 N 20th Dr Suite 12 Phoenix, AZ 85085 until October 2025 with the ability to work onsite at 485 N Juniper Drive Suite 2 Chandler, Arizona 85226 thereafter

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Compounded Sterile Preparations Technician (CSPT) certification
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification
  • 1+ years of consistent sterile compounding experience
  • Ability to work independently to solve high-stakes problems

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours with intermittent breaks
  • Ability to lift to 30 pounds
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders
The salary range for this role is $16.88 to $33.22 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
